With fewer than 40 hours left in 2011, it seems like a obedient time to think of what 2012 holds in store. There are plenty of predictions about what we throne expect in technology, supported what exists now, and the current trends. I am going to take a slightly different coming, though.

What follows is a technology wishing list for 2012 that are not a predictions per se. The wishes exist along their own merits without regard for current applied science. At the same time, the wishes are non so tops that they are on the far side the land of possibility.

With that in mind, here we go:

It would be dainty to be mobile without having to worry about safekeeping your device(s) charged.

Better Electric battery Life

The humans has gone mobile. From both a consumer and patronage perspective, more people are relying on notebooks, smartphones, and tablets to touch base from virtually anywhere. The problem is that "virtually anywhere" is usually missing in power outlets, so these devices need to have the juice to get through the day…at to the lowest degree.

There have been significant strides in this area. My iPad 2 seems to finis forever, and my current notebook computer can treat through just about of a work twenty-four hours on a single load. Smartphones appear to be heading in the wrong direction, though — both the iPhone 4S and the fresh launched Galaxy Link appear to run out quicker than their predecessors — and there is still room for melioration.

Less Adaptor Mix-up

4G radiocommunication speeds are awesome…if you can ascertain them.

Even without the d.o.a. zones, though, users who prize a device or supplier supported along the promise of 4G (or even 3G for that matter), should be able to use that religious service about anywhere. 4G service is modified to specific metropolitan areas in most cases, and even 3G networks have holes similar Swiss cheese. At whatsoever given meter it is a crap shoot to picture out whether my wireless devices will equal able to connect on 3G, or if they will fall back to some pathetically larghissimo bequest mesh.

Wireless providers need to take every last that money we're running in, and invest information technology in a robust, tried and true infrastructure capable of actually delivering the speed and quality of service that they advertise.

Fluent, Compromising Part Interaction

Siri is great. But, Siri is limited to only the iPhone 4S, and flush on the iPhone 4S Siri has limited capabilities. So, for the 2012 technology wish list, let's add voice interaction, a' la Siri, that is many political program different, and more comprehensive in its capabilities.

Siri is gravid, just it is not living up to its full potential yet.

For starters, I'd vindicatory like to see Siri offered across the Apple ecosystem. I can't see some reason why the same Siri voice fundamental interaction shouldn't work just fine happening my iPad 2 and MacBook Air as healed as my iPhone 4S. Beyond that, though, IT would be nice to have Siri – or Siri-like capabilities – available on devices beyond just Apple.

Aside from that, I care for 2012 that the functionality of Siri (or other voice fundamental interaction tools) is enlarged. You should be competent to unresolved apps, or take pictures using voice commands.

Pooled Data

In 2012, can we delight get pooled data plans? I receive been preaching pooled data for some meter, and it appears that Verizon has something along those lines planned. It doesn't add up that my mobile devices share a pool of minutes when IT comes to talk time, merely that each one has to have its own separate information plan, with its own separate disbursal and pocket billiards of megabytes.

I'll exact that one step farther, and say that the data pool should include all of my data — not just mobile. Rather than having one throwaway for home broadband, and separate bills for every mobile device, I should be able to figure impermissible how so much tote up bandwidth I need, and buy up 1 pool that can be divided by all.

Platform Agnosticism

The cosmos of engineering science is becoming more and more various. It is non uncommon for someone to consume a Windows PC, an Android smartphone, and an iOS tablet. Indeed, let's wrap up with a compliments that software become more platform disbelief in 2012.

Whether it's a gage equal Raging Birds, productivity tools like Microsoft Office, or cloud storage like Box.com, people should embody able to use the same tools across every of their devices. And, much importantly, those tools should be unbroken in sync, and offer equally much consistency in both features and flavor as possible.
